When should you seek professional help?

Even though lifestyle changes might be all it takes for some when it comes to dealing with emotional abuse, you may need something more. You should first know that it’s normal. Therapy can help you heal from the effects of an emotionally abusive relationship.

A professional can help you find healthy ways to move forward positively. You might find professional counseling valuable if you’re:

  • Depressed
  • Avoiding all social situations
  • Having frequent flashbacks or nightmares
  • Using drugs or alcohol to cope
  • Frequently anxious or fearful
  • Unable to carry out your responsibilities

According to the National Institute Of Mental Health, there are many support groups, talk therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy resources out there to help you address the effects of emotional abuse.
