6. Short-term memory changes

You probably already know that one of the main symptoms of dementia is short-term memory loss. At first, these changes might be very subtle and there is a high chance you won’t notice them.

When talking with your spouse, you can tell if they have memory loss, but you need to be really careful. They might remember events that took place years and years ago, for example, your wedding or what they were doing when they were younger, but if you ask them what they ate for breakfast, things might be different.

This is the loss of short-term memory. Not remembering events that took place recently. This might happen with aging, but if you notice that your spouse is always forgetting things that just happened, for example, what you just discussed, it might be a warning sign.

Thank you for your post on Dementia. My wife and I are in our eighties and we are still travaling by car to vacations here in the states. We have travaled to South America and Europe in group plans. So far I beleive we haven’t had problems but I am interested in staying informed of Dementia.

I’ve been seeing a lot of these signs in my husband for the last 5 years or more, but it’s gotten worse in the last 2 years!
He’s now 70 years old & we’ve been married for over 45 years!
