5. Confusion or disorientation

Contrary to popular belief, confusion or disorientation in elderly persons can also be an indication of serious depression or psychosis. However, another common cause of sudden confusion might be hypoxia, or a shortage of oxygen in the blood, which can have a variety of causes, including a severe asthma attack or a heart or lung condition.

Dementia may be to blame if you or a loved one is consistently confused because this particular mental illness is a degenerative disorder brought on by deteriorating brain function that impairs your ability to carry out daily tasks. It also has an impact on behavior, memory, and judgment.
