An Introduction to Mindfulness and Meditation for Seniors

A Note for Caregivers

If you are a caregiver for an older adult, these practices can be a lifeline for your own well-being. The stress of caregiving is immense, and taking just five minutes for a mindful breathing exercise can help you regulate your own nervous system, reducing burnout and improving your ability to provide compassionate care. You might also consider inviting the person you care for to practice with you. A short, guided meditation can be a shared activity that brings a sense of calm and connection for both of you. Remember to seek out your own support through local groups or online resources provided by organizations like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
