6. The Subtle Nature of Unhealthy Relationship Dynamics

Harmful relationship patterns can be difficult to recognize. An individual on the receiving end of these behaviors may feel confused, sad, or responsible for the situation, even when they have done nothing wrong.

A common tactic is to disguise hurtful comments as jokes, which can cause the partner to feel that the negative language was not ill-intentioned.

7. Difficulty with Personal Boundaries

In these dynamics, you may notice that a partner struggles to respect personal limits. They might try to persuade you to compromise your boundaries by ignoring them or by using tactics like the silent treatment. Often, this results in one person accommodating the other’s wishes at the expense of their own comfort and principles.

This experience can make it challenging to establish healthy boundaries in future relationships. For many, overcoming this requires professional support from a qualified therapist to rebuild that skill.
