1. Communicate

When you’re diagnosed with something so complicated that it makes you feel like you’re barely existing anymore, you might be tempted to start acting like you’re invisible. That means stopping talking to your friends and family, preferring to be alone all the time, and maybe not paying attention to what your healthcare provider tells you.

The patients I’ve talked to told me that all these feelings are normal, but you have to make an effort and keep communicating with those who only want to help you. You might want to protect them from some bad news, but you won’t do that if you isolate yourself from them.

Talk to your doctor, be open with your close friends and family, tell them about the things you’re going through, and let them be part of this stage of your life. This is great support, and it will help you in your fight against the disease!
