With many married couples, one spouse usually assumes the primary responsibility for handling the household finances.

And since you’ve been enjoying regular income from your job for many years, it’s easy to become accustomed to a higher standard of living without being too concerned about budgeting.

But now that you’ve entered retirement, you’ll likely be living on a more limited income, you should talk to each other about how the amount of spending money will vary and how you’ll change your spending habits together.

When both partners comprehend their financial situation and agree on the boundaries they should uphold, disputes over money will be significantly reduced.
