4. Becoming pushy when it comes to the grandchildren.

Mistakes with adult children can take many forms, but one that all children have when it comes to their parents after they are married and already have their own children is how pushy they become when it comes to the kids. Your parenting style may be extremely different from your grown children’s, and if you try to impose your views and techniques, you may end up having a one-way ticket to not being allowed to ever babysit!

It may be that you think that a child needs to be disciplined or that you have to correct certain behaviors, but you should always talk to your child and their partner about how they chose to do that instead of applying what you think is best. Grandparents play an important role in their grandchildren’s lives, but this doesn’t mean you should overrule your children as parents. You can give suggestions and try to help them, but in the end, they will call the shots when it comes to how they choose to raise their children.

And one of the biggest mistakes with adult children is trying to out-parent them!

Whether you are a mother-in-law already or you are going to become one soon, you should make sure to not make these mistakes as a mother-in-law that can further alienate your children!
