Denial

We don’t have a problem seeing trouble with others, but we might become a bit oblivious to our own issues. Well, this blindness might often crop up when it comes to addiction. It seems that 54 million Americans who are between 12 and older misused prescription drugs at least once, as the National Institutes of Health explained.

And yet, almost a third of the 4,600 people polled in a recent Michigan State University study explained they were completely unaware of any kind of sign of drug addiction, even when it was right in front of their faces (the people who participated in this poll were given a brief description of a person exhibiting all the symptoms).

So what happens when the problem is you? It’s a known fact that denial plays a great role when it comes to any kind of addiction, which makes it way harder to see if something’s wrong. Probably the most difficult thing is trying to see the picture when you’re in the frame.

Admitting that you might deny what’s actually happening is even more challenging. But seeing the “pattern” in other addicts might help you recognize what’s happening with you
