How can you figure out if someone’s lying to you?

Well, it’s complicated. Detecting a lie is something that experts from different fields have been trying to study, and there are certain findings that we can all use in our day-to-day lives. According to Dr. Leanne ten Brinke, a forensic psychologist at the University of California, Berkeley, our instincts for spotting a liar are fairly strong. However, she points out that our conscious minds sometimes fail us.

Fortunately, there are signs we can look for when trying to tell if someone’s lying.

Dr. Lillian Glass, body language expert, behavioral analyst, and author of “The Body Language of Liars,” says when trying to detect a lie, you first need to know how the person normally acts. Certain gestures or habits, like oversharing and pointing, may be perfectly within an individual’s character.

Don’t forget that these signs are just potential indicators of deception, not definite proof. Moreover, some liars are so good at doing this that they may get away with not showing any of these signs.

This being said, here are some signs that someone may be lying to you!
