2. Marriage is not something that completes you

“Finding the one” or “finding your other half” – do any of these sound familiar to you? This is how marriage is marketed nowadays. It makes you think that you are missing a part of yourself and that you need to search for it. After you find it, you become one, and you will be happy. Many people think that this is how things work, but in reality, things are more complex than that.

First of all, you are not incomplete, and because of that, you don’t need another person to complete you. Every individual that lives on this planet is responsible for her or his life, and nobody can change that. When you get married, you and the other person love each other and wish to unite your forces in order to live a better life from then on.

The math behind this process is simple: one plus one is not equal to one. Also, one plus one is not even two. One plus one is three! This is the answer that will help you the most in the long run.

Your happiness doesn’t depend on other people. It is perfectly normal to want to be happy with the person you choose to spend your life with, but this doesn’t mean that you have to become dependent on them. You are the only one who is responsible for your happiness, and nobody can change that.
