5. Spectrophobia

No. 5 on our list of the most unusual phobias is spectrophobia, which makes people experience an intense fear in response to mirrors or what is reflected in a mirror. They may fear seeing themselves or other objects or people reflected on a mirror surface. According to experts, people with schizophrenia or depression are more likely to perceive distortions when looking at themselves in a mirror.

Not only is this one of the most unusual phobias, but it’s also quite serious. Experiencing spectrophobia can be very debilitating and can impact a person’s overall quality of life.

For a diagnosis of it, as with any other phobia, the symptoms must have been present for at least six months and cannot be explained by another mental health disorder or medical condition.
