Misdiagnosed Mental Illnesses: 4 Shocking Ones Commonly Overlooked

Bipolar disorder

Bipolar is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed mental illnesses in the United States. The percentage of people who have to live with this condition worldwide is relatively low, between 1.4% and 6.4%; however, due to the rampant misdiagnosis of this mental health condition, the numbers may not be accurate.

Studies have shown that about 69% of those who finally got their right diagnosis reported that they had been misdiagnosed with other mental health conditions before they got the bipolar disorder diagnosis. This is because bipolar disorder manifests in two ways, as people oscillate between having depressive and manic episodes.
