3. Understand your triggers

This is very important when it comes to those who cope with health anxiety. Hypochondria creates a cycle of thoughts and behaviors ignited by a range of triggers. Understanding what generates those thoughts can help you eliminate the power of your fears.

A trigger may be reading about the latest virus that goes into the atmosphere or experiencing a certain symptom yourself. These triggers then shift your attention to your body’s sensations, and before you know it, you’re on the Internet searching for answers and scheduling tests with your doctor.

In order to cope with health anxiety, it’s important to recognize what triggers you and revert your focus right away with a positive action (cleaning your house, calling a friend, or going to the gym) instead of following the cycle.
