1. It’s difficult for them to find the right words

Over the last months, something has seemed a little off with your spouse. They are the same joyful and caring person who is always there for you, but there is something that is not okay with them. You think maybe it’s just old age and there’s nothing to worry about.

Whenever you are discussing more complex topics, but not only, you have observed that your spouse freezes and seems not to know what to say. When they try to explain something to you, even if it is something simple, they appear to be at a loss for words.

This should be an alarm signal because difficulty finding the right words is a common early sign of dementia. Many times, people who suffer from this disorder stop in the middle of the sentence and don’t know what to do from there. It is challenging for them to have a conversation and express their feelings and thoughts.

Thank you for your post on Dementia. My wife and I are in our eighties and we are still travaling by car to vacations here in the states. We have travaled to South America and Europe in group plans. So far I beleive we haven’t had problems but I am interested in staying informed of Dementia.

I’ve been seeing a lot of these signs in my husband for the last 5 years or more, but it’s gotten worse in the last 2 years!
He’s now 70 years old & we’ve been married for over 45 years!
