1. Looking away

If you notice that someone’s avoiding eye contact with you, it’s a pretty clear sign that they aren’t being honest with you, according to Emily Kurlansik, a neuropsychologist, PsyD, therapist, and assistant professor in neurology.

She points out that when someone steals their eyes from you at a crucial moment, this is usually one of the signs of lying. Moreover, moving their eyes around could be a hallmark as they ponder over what to say next.

People’s eyes usually dart back and forth when they feel uncomfortable. This is a physiological reaction to them feeling trapped by your questions that they don’t want to answer. Experts explain it’s a throwback to when people had to find an escape route when they knew they were in a dangerous situation, such as facing an animal adversary.

Similarly, signs of lying also include when the person’s eyes „dart around”. The rolling of the eyes is also an indicator that they are lying. It may happen subconsciously, but you can still notice it.

Also, when someone lies, unless the person is a psychopath, the pupils in their eyes will get smaller, after they get accustomed to the light. That just takes a minute or so.
