2. Tightened forehead and jaw

No. 2 on our list of signs of lying is another subtle facial expression that is still pretty easy to notice if you pay attention closely. Liars tend to tense up when they are being dishonest, and this can include tightening the forehead and jaw. According to therapists, both are connected to the „stress and mental effort” associated with telling a lie.

Someone who’s lying will concentrate harder on what they are saying than someone who’s simply telling the truth. A liar has to think about what they are going to say next, how their story will sound, and whether their lie makes sense. The forehead muscles, thus, tense up.

This being said, if you have a feeling that the person to whom you’re talking may be lying, pay attention to their jaw and forehead.

By the way, if you want to discover more signs of lying and learn more about body language, here’s one of the best books about human behavior.

Also, when someone lies, unless the person is a psychopath, the pupils in their eyes will get smaller, after they get accustomed to the light. That just takes a minute or so.
