Panic Attack Coping Strategy: Grab On To Something

One common sign you’re having a panic attack is when someone is disoriented or confused. It’s hard to orient yourself, making your panic only deepen. As you notice this beginning to transpire, the best panic attack coping strategy we can give you is to “ground” yourself.

For example, if you’re standing up as the panic sets in, find something to latch onto physically, like a doorknob or the back of a chair.

If you’re lying down when the attack happens, it’s good to grab a smaller item, like keys, a pillow, or anything you can hold onto within your reach. Continue moving your fingers across it.

Anything you can do to make yourself feel that the moment is real will help you get through the most troubled times much faster.
