7. Weight gain

When you get anxious repeatedly, your brain directs certain glands to flood your body with the hormones cortisol and adrenalin. When there’s a high level of these two hormones in your body, you could say the feeling is somehow like being high. These things anxiety does to your body often result in cravings.

While experts don’t have a clear explanation for why this happens, they believe this “high” probably makes you reach out for sweet comfort foods like cake, chocolate, or creamy pastries, as well as aerated beverages that contain a lot of sugar.

Not such a smart move, though. The rise and subsequent drop in your blood glucose lead to a constant craving for sugary and salty foods. This never-ending roller coaster of anxiety can lead to weight gain and even obesity.

If you want to read more about the things anxiety does to your body, check out this: 7 Senior Social Anxiety Symptoms and 8 Effortless Ways You Can Cope. This book can also help you relieve stress and anxiety.
