Why Unhappy Relationships Rarely Divorce

Before we get into some fantastic tips for your retirement life, let’s talk about the most significant issue facing senior couples. Interestingly, even if a senior couple’s relationship has become cold and lacks passion, their marriage will probably still survive retirement.

“Misery loves company” might illustrate why so many unhappy unions prevail. But, there are also several other reasons couples remain in a less-than-satisfactory union. They might include:

  • Till death do us part: Even in today’s world, there’s a social stigma of failure and that you should always try harder.
  • Money: Divorce isn’t exactly inexpensive. After all the legal fees and cutting everything in half, many retirees are forced to go back to work to be able to make ends meet.
  • Fear of change: For many of us, “the devil you know” is a safer option than the turmoil associated with having to start a newly single life.
  • Relationships with others: Even amicable divorces can cause tensions and redefine relationships with children and grandchildren. Friendships with other couples can also become strained because most feel like they have to choose sides.
  • Growing old alone: There’s a real risk of you spending the rest of your life alone, making it a decision to have your union survive retirement.

…We hope our readers aren’t put in these situations. So let’s talk about some positive ways you and your significant other can survive marriage in retirement!
