They are constantly abusive

Right from the start, any type of abuse- whether it’s physical, mental, or even emotional – is nothing but a sign of a toxic relationship and environment. Abuse is the farthest end when it comes to toxicity, and it’s, without a doubt, one of the most horrible things that could ever happen to someone.

Anybody who uses verbal words just to make a family member feel completely worthless is showing toxicity. Also, violent behavior that’s not directed at you is still completely unacceptable, and a huge red flag.

You always feel depressed and anxious in their presence

Another sign that you’re dealing with a toxic family member is the way you feel around them. As mentioned before, this could also include a wide range of feelings, from depression to anxiety and low self-worth.

Probably the biggest sign of being a member of a toxic family dynamic is the way you feel when you’re with them or right before seeing them. If you’re feeling crippling anxiety right before seeing them, you should listen to that feeling. It comes from somewhere.
