You talk about yourself way too much
Ever notice how people make certain facial expressions or just shut down when you start talking about yourself? This could be due to the fact that they’re tired of listening to you.
People love to talk about themselves because it makes them feel good, especially when they talk about their achievements. But let’s face it: no one likes to hang around narcissists.
When you talk about yourself too much, you’re not allowing a healthy conversation to occur and you probably won’t get much respect from others. People can get impatient or even interrupt you.
They can eventually end up avoiding you so they don’t have to sit and listen to you take up the conversation all the time. If they can listen to you, why can’t you listen to them? Make the conversation about the other person as well and be more engaged.
Ask questions out of genuine interest so you can return the kind gesture that was given to you. People love to share stories about themselves because it creates bonds that help reinforce relationships.
If you make them feel like you’re present, involved, and focused on them, you’ll gain more respect from others and they’ll begin to do the same to you.
The bottom line is that if you want more respect from others, you must first give it yourself. We suggest inviting a few friends over and sharing a couple of bottles of wine, and have a true heart to heart to get down to the root of the matter. Trust us…you’ll feel much better!

Great advice!! Wish a few people I know would read it.
Finding the rest of the article is complex and I couldn’t find it, wish I could have.
Pretty interesting and valuable.
This was quite interesting. And if wanting and valuing respect from others is your goal, then I think it could be quite helpful. It does ignore one basic point however. You have to WANT to be respected and desire respect from others. There are many people who socially function very well without this need. I’ve always believed respecting myself to be more important.
Just give the 7 behaviours!
Think you left out a very important one for us seniors. Just being old often makes a person irrelevant. Not just speaking for myself but have watched others even very interesting people being dismissed while others go on talking about themselves.
Why don’t you make customer services of some companies that use AI robots instead of humans read this? They need to!
Excellent and true comments.
Bah! NONESENSE! What a loada—-!
Folks with integrity can just BE themselves and don’t need to give nor take any ass-kissing. If you have integrity, you don’t NEED a fan club.
I get along by myself just fine—I WON’T BE INDUCTED INTO PECKING ORDERS UNLESS IT IS ASSERTED THAT I AM AT THE TOP!! Yeah. it saves me a lot of time and trouble to just avoid—-

Now THAT was well said and thank you for putting it out there!
I agree. Too many people have no integrity these days, The narcissists alone are hard to read. Two different people. They show the world their mask of who they want you to believe they are, while hiding their true selves underneath.. You got to be a well educated person to navigate this new world of ME ME ME entitled society. Another reason its best to not participate. People today are evil and I am not catering to their mental illnesses.
I agree. People today have no integrity and society has a whole lot of mental issues. Old school was best. No one has taught their kids what they need to succeed in life. Generations of entitled brats and people broken from childhood grow up to be narcissists who prey on others disguised by their mask of deceit.
#1 Honesty, was spot on but the rest of this article soon fell apart. You have to build trust with others before the reward of their respect is earned. This takes time.
Trust is earned by developing and demonstrating certain traits. These include; honor, honesty, integrity, and treating others with respect. Having the courage to do the right thing, a commitment to taking care of the people around you, and making things better for everyone.
These are the things that leaders do.
