Depression
While you may be hearing the fact that depression is diagnosed way too easily these days and that somehow “everyone is depressed”, we should not lend an ear to misinformation. Not to mention, this type of rhetoric also makes it hard for those who live with this (misdiagnosed) mental illness to get the diagnosis they deserve.
Myths aside, depression is the leading cause of mental health issues worldwide, so it is surprising that it is also one of the most commonly misdiagnosed mental illnesses since one would believe people would be more knowledgeable about it. Unfortunately, the reasons are varied, and depending on the gender of the person, depression can manifest in different ways. This is one of the main reasons men end up not getting the diagnosis and, as a result, the treatment they need.
