How a toxic home might affect our mental health

Since childhood, being in a toxic environment will soon show its toll. As many psychotherapists explained, living in a toxic environment could quickly lead to depression, anxiety, and an overall sense of “walking on eggshells” in your own home. It might also affect one’s view of himself/herself.

When there’s a toxic member in the family, the environment becomes highly anxious, which oftentimes affects the way its members view the house, but also the way they view the world in general. Living in a toxic family has a far-reaching effect, as it could also affect your attachment style.

If you’re trapped in a long-term and unsafe environment for so long, it will show in the way you live your life. It could show up in other relationships, as you might notice that it’s extremely hard to get close to other people, that you are self-sabotaging when it comes to your relationships, or that you have a hard time trusting others. Here are 9 essential signs that you’re dealing with a toxic family member or even a household:
