Punishment is always harsher than it should be

Of course, discipline is needed when it comes to raising children, but when we’re talking about super harsh discipline, it’s nothing but a sign of toxicity. When you’re badly punished if you don’t follow the rules, whether it’s explicit or implicit, then something’s wrong. For instance, if you miss a call from your dad and you forgot to call back, and it leads to weeks of passive-aggressiveness behavior on his behalf, then something’s not right.

Their behavior is unpredictable

According to experts, unpredictability could also be translated as a sign of a toxic household, which might lead to that particular feeling of “walking on eggshells” which we referred to earlier. One minute, everything is fine and everybody has a great time, the next minute, you just hit one land mine and everything explodes…oftentimes, right in your face.
