10 Subtle Signs Someone’s Lying To You

3. They’re not saying enough

When truth-telling people describe something that they saw and you ask them “Is there anything else?”, they come up with more details. But when liars are asked to reveal more details and go behind their made-up stories, few to no other details are given.

Experts from the American Psychological Association refer to these people as “deceivers who lie by omission”. These are the people who, when asked to provide more details or answer questions, usually say less than those telling the truth.

A great method that experts use when it comes to verifying if the criminal is telling the truth is by asking them to tell events backward. Obviously, this can’t always be done in day-to-day life, but it can really help to detect a lie in criminal cases.

Truth-tellers will stick to the original story while giving more details, while those who are lying often get tripped up and come up with a different story without offering more details.
