8. They never stop practicing self-care

Last but not least, emotionally intelligent people never stop practicing self-care. Does it sound like they do nothing but give and be understanding? Give people the benefit of the doubt and practice compassion.

That’s because of one habit these people have: they never neglect self-care. You know when flight attendants remind us to always use the oxygen mask when the plane is in trouble? That’s because we simply can’t take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves first.

So, emotionally intelligent people do exactly that—they prioritize their emotional, mental, and physical health.

Final thoughts

As you can see, emotional intelligence is a pivotal skill that can help us maintain our mental health and build more meaningful relationships with others. It’s as important as IQ, if not sometimes more, as a strong predictor of success, whether professional or personal.

While some people have naturally high emotional intelligence, it’s also a skill you can develop through mindfulness and practice.
